Bio (personality/history):
Personality—
Cilas is what could be described as both sides of one coin. His internal struggle splits from an origin far from his external struggle. On rare occasion, these two will intermingle. Though, his initial façade is hot-headed and obedient, he finds himself quickly regretting any action he may produce without thought. Cilas has an excellent sense of empathy, however the dynamic other half – sympathy – is something that is entirely foreign. That’s no surprise, considering that he is a descendant and in line to the Sieron throne.
One thing that unleashes sheer anger faster than anything else is lack of opinion or input. Cilas loathes being interrupted and if his voice isn’t heard, he immediately retreats back into himself. Those who are close to Cilas would tell you that he’s an artist when it comes to his born ability. The countless hours of training and practice while growing, has been nothing but useful. They would also stress that he isn’t the type to get along with at first. His first impression on people is often arrogant, ostentatious, and slightly rude. It’s a test, he says. Cilas wants to see who is willing to work with him for only those types of people are worth keeping close at hand.
History –
A cry of joy to the Goddess filled Sieron as the news of two beautiful and healthy babies were born filtered across the land. These two would be descendants and never so much as falter when it came to reaching expectation. A boy and a girl… a blessing such as this would deserve a feast.
However, Cilas was the true victor from the moment he left the womb. He had received the set of abilities an Aquamentalist was expected to have. His twin sister—Beatrix, whose name already left a lingering look of confusion among those who heard it – was a mere mundane. This wasn’t truly discovered until the middle of their first year of life. Their mother had inkling that something was gravely wrong, but who was she to complain when there were future heirs to the throne growing within her? She quickly buried her worries from her husband, explaining that her change in demeanor was only natural. Her slender frame could only handle so much before exhaustion would show.
Once the twin’s father had realized the true oddity of Beatrix rather than Cilas, he began to seek answers from advisors and those who specialized in the progression of Aquamentalists. When a conclusion arose, Cilas was sent with a handmaiden to accompany his mother on a walk.
Cilas was ignorant of what would happen to Beatrix in a matter of weeks. The only aspect that threw Cilas into a loop and fuss was his grandmother barging through the doors of the nursery where Cilas and his mother indulged in small learning games and storytelling. He didn’t necessarily understand what his grandmother had been so upset about, but a handmaiden was quickly summoned to keep an eye on the immediately distressed toddler as his mother and grandmother left.
Months turned to years and the fragments of the memories he had of his sister dissolved into a made-up friend. When he decided to finally name this friend of his, he proclaimed to his mother that her name was Beatrix. Her reply was a swift slap to the face and a look of fear. Cilas was only six at the time, but he remembered what his mother hissed out at him. “You are to never say that name again,” were words to which Cilas quickly closed into himself. He forced this imagination far into his mind, left to dissolve and be forgotten.
This was around the time that Cilas’ personality began to alter too. He occupied his time in his ability until he was at last branded with the mark of his land at his coming of age ceremony. He, like the rest of his family, lived with much pride and though Cilas is a picture of perfection to his parents, he desires things that are out of reach.
Cilas wants to travel the sea with the navy force– if only he could see outside the walls into the outer environment, would he truly believe that everything beyond Sieron is damnation and savagery. He never voiced this desire to anyone in fear that this would back fire against him. Never again, did he want to see that look in his mother’s eye.
Though very popular among the maidens of Sieron, Cilas has yet to be married. This is particularly due to his mother’s determination to get a woman who is beyond the general standards of acceptance. Married or not, Cilas is far from one who would be depicted as ‘pure’ and ‘foreign’ to intimacy. Experimentation came plentiful once he was branded. It’s one of the few things that Cilas enjoys indulging in that isn’t training or playing companion to his mother when his father is busy with other affairs. He’s found himself closer to his mother.
Come to think of it, the last time Cilas had spoken to his father rather than in written word was during the colder months. This behavior led Cilas to think that his father is purposefully avoiding him and his mother, but why? It couldn’t have been another woman.
…Perhaps the similarities that Cilas had to Beatrix led to a longing curiosity to what she would have looked like if she still lived. After all, Cilas’ father had wanted a girl.
