A smile was still tucked into the side of his mouth, though he tried to force it away. Thomas hardly ever smiled during training, or when he was with the masters. Or even when he was around his family. The boy knew that he needed to be serious, needed to learn how to make himself as hard and sharp as steel. That was how a many in the army should be. But being with Etmere was different. He could be himself around the younger boy, and not like the adult he tried to be. If he was lucky, being with his sister would be the same way. They could have fun together, if they were allowed.
"A woman is a woman, no matter her status," he chuckled "but I suppose you would be right. Your parents will be needing to find a duchess willing to put up with you. I don't envy them at all." Thomas couldn't guess which duchess it would be, though. He had a vague idea of the higher levels of the royal family, but there were so many children in the House that he was constantly running into new faces at every turn. Oh Goddess, he was going to have to start learning their names, leaning how to address them? The boy reached up with one hand and rubbed at his forehead. At least he would have a live time of practice.
Lifting his dark eyes up to the sky, he frowned as he noticed how much the sun had dipped down past the horizon. It was a bit later than he had thought it to be, and he would need to be leaving soon. Letting out a long sigh, he looked down at the sweat drying on his naked chest. And he would have to wash, though he supposed that would not be the worst thing in the world. Only time consuming. "The feast for my sister will be starting soon," he murmured, still looking up at the clouds. They were ripe with deep purples and blues, and a few stars were winking down at them from the far East. "I suppose I should be leaving now..."
Thomas didn't move, but stayed staring up at the sky. If it was a smaller, family affair he would be eager to leave but with so many people filling the house there would be no hiding. Much bowing and introducing and standing up straight, but little time to actually be with his parents and newborn sister. He briefly wondered if Ebba and her family would be coming. He supposed he would be having to expect them at these sorts of things. Glancing back towards Etmere, a bit of a smile returned to his face. "If you have a good place for me to hide, now would be a good time to mention it.."
